Goody Giveaway!

So, Krissi's pal, fellow sewing enthusiast, artist, makeup fiend and general cool chick, Mo "Miss Awesome" Love over at Madd Style Designs has been coming up with all kinds of lip treats over the past few months and Krissi (a self-confessed lip balm addict) has collected most of Mo's Hard Core Lip Bombs, which come in all kinds of flavors, from cotton candy to spicy chai and from grape soda to margaritas!

Now Mo is crafting up "Tainted Lip Bombs" with tints inspired by and named after the artists, crafters and characters with whom she collaborates.   (Oh, and speaking of collaboration, there will be an announcement of some group-type evil-making involving glitter very, very soon, so stay tuned).  Because not everyone wants color in their lip product, every one of these flavors also comes in an untinted version.

Mo's first tinted Lip Bomb was made as an homage to Cherry West of Sweets N Stuff (and this fabulous lipstick red beauty has already made it into a few Etsy treasuries!)

Pink Poison in action!
Then, a week or so back, two of Madd Style's coveted "Lip Bombz" were introduced with a Skelekitty theme - how exciting!  As with the cherry flavored Sweets N Stuff / Cherry Bomb duo, you have the choice between a tinted and an untinted version of this watermelon flavored tasty treat.  Pink Poison Tainted Lip Bomb (named after the Skelekitty skull/crossbones painting featured on most of my pages), has a soft pink tint and shimmer that will make you look as pretty as a picture and the untinted "Skelekitty" Hard Core Lip Bomb is packed with so much shimmer and sparkle it should be illegal.
Want more proof that you NEED a Skelekitty
Hard Core Lip Bombz?  How 'bout this?

Well thrill of thrills, I managed to get my little skelepaws on an extra one of the untinted, super shimmery, sparkly "Skelekitty" Hard Core Lip Bombz so I could give it away randomly to one of our fans!   It's super easy to enter.*
  1. Become a follower of this blog and of Mo's Madd Style blog
  2. Leave a comment** on this original post (on skelekitty.blogspot.com) telling Mo and Krissi why you'd like this lip balm (again, winner will be chosen by random).

Our winner will be chosen from qualifying entries on Thursday, July 15th at 2pm PST.  Good luck everyone!

Oh, and you KNOW Mo's stuff gets one of these, right?

*  pssst!  Don't have a blogger account?  Don't worry!  You can also enter on Facebook.
**thanks to bad people who spam, all comments must be approved by Krissi - don't worry, yours will show up!.

Skele-Networking Made A Little Easier

Hi there Skele-Folks!

You know, there's a lot of crazy social networking those crazy kids are doing on the interwebs these days. The way I figure it, if sometimes it's enough to ruffle the fur of a skeleton cat (that's pretty bad!), then maybe you need a little help and understanding too (of course, I'm talking to my fans over the age of 25 here).

That's why I wanted to post and let you know that IF you are on "the facebook," you can read my blog posts right on your facebook news feed!   All you have to do is go to my Fan Page and click the Become A Fan button.  The button will appear to the right of "Skelekitty" at the top of the page.

Not only will blog posts show up in your news feed, but any time you visit me on facebook, you can easily access my blog, contact info and artfire store right from the tabs at the top of the fan page.  Oh yeah, and my fan pages is totally separate from Krissi's personal facebook profile, so you don't have to add her as a friend or be approved as a fan.  Any facebook user can join.

So once you're a fan, you can suggest the page to your friends.  No spamming, please!  However, if you think someone is or would be a fan and doesn't know about the page, let 'em know.  The "suggest to friends" link is under my profile pic.

If you forget and decide to become a fan later, there's a link in the sidebar of this here blog.

Now, for those of you who don't have a facebook profile, DON'T PANIC!  Nothing will change here - facebook just has a gadget that pulls these posts into their site.  Neato, huh?

More Ghoulish Goodies

The Artfire Ghouls Guild TRICK OR TREAT 2009 continues today with coupon codes and sales from 13 of our members (how lucky is THAT for you?), a scavenger hunt and two more featured artists, Huckleberry Arts and one of my new favorite crazy girls, Christine St. Onge of 2 of Mind and Spirit.

HUCKLEBERRY ARTS
Annette Gambrel

I don't recall a time in my life where something was not being created. I don't ever see not having time in the day where something isn’t made.

Being an artist has been a gift I couldn't be more proud of, the people I have met each one touches me in their own little way, some more than they know. I enjoy the process of meeting new collectors that enjoy my lil creations. It’s a wonderful gift to be given and to be able to share with others, and hopefully bring a smile into another’s life along the way.

Yours Truly on Crafty Chica's Inspiration Friday

Guess WHO was featured on Kathy "Crafty Chica" Cano-Murillo's blog today?? She even "outed" Krissi (about her unnatural relationship with glitter).

Diary of a Crafty Chica: INSPIRATION FRIDAY: Skelekitty!

I've noticed a new kitty on the crafting scene - and she literally is...a kitty! This friendly feline has her own web site, a blog and gobs of personality. I was recently able to grab hold of her and ask her a few questions before she sprang out of my hands to go back to her owner's art room. Can you say finicky? By the way, her owner is the talented Krissi Sandvik.

CraftyChica.com: Tell me how you came to be, Miss Skelekitty? Did you get shortchanged from your nine lives?

Skelekitty: Heck no, my nine lives are just beginning! I was introduced to the world in the summer of 2006 when Krissi donated the very first Skelekitty piece a local kitty rescue's annual fundraising auction. Krissi has always loved animals and became fascinated with the Day of the Dead celebration when she lived in San Francisco's Mission District. She thought the spirit of Dia de los Muertos (that is, celebrating the lives of loved ones) fit in perfectly with a kitty adoption organization. Pretty soon, people started asking to see me in more art, so Krissi created a whole line featuring me and my skelecritter pals called Skelekitty and Friends.

Q: And now you are a rockstar kitty - you have a line of stamps in your likeness! Tell me, how did you decide on the poses for the stamps? Did you get final say?

A: Well of COURSE I have final approval on all of my images - I'm a kitty who's definitely not shy about speaking her mind! The stamps were chosen by the nice lady who runs Stampa Fe art stamps in Santa Fe, New Mexico - she picked her four favorites to start off with. The response to the stamps has been so positive, you may be seeing some brand new Skelekitty stamps (and maybe some other skelecritters) soon.

Q: Tell me about your owner, I hear she is very crafty!

A: She sure is - she's always gluing something to something else and started Sacramento's coolest FREE craft night, Scary CRAFT's Night of the Creators. Even her MAIL is crafty! Here is a tutorial!

In addition to her paintings, she makes quilts, reconstructed clothing, shrines, jewelry. Krissi has always loved language and writing and has started to play with photography too! She especially enjoys a challenge where she has create outside of her comfort zone.

Q: How does having a pet helps a person's creativity?

A: Animals are wonderful muses because they are so loving and funny. One of the most popular pieces was inspired by a hungry kitty rubbing against her human's legs when they come home at night.

The antics of Krissi's kitties and dog are often the inspiration for paintings. Anyone who has ever lived with a cat or dog (or small children) will be able to relate to "The Two Sides of Skelekitty."
Q: Will you share your favorite pieces by your owner and how she made them - I'm sure you sat and watched every moment of their creation, right?

A: I imagine everyone expects the portraits of me are my favorites, but they'd be wrong! Like Krissi, my favorite pieces tend to be ones where she experimented by using her favorite imagery within a not-typically-Krissi themes. Painting The Roses Red, which was created for an Alice in Wonderland themed show, is a good example.

I also like the pieces she makes with a real sense of irony, like her "Diet Shrine" art quilt.
Krissi Sandvik. I must share that she told me she never was a fan of glitter until she went on the Crafty Chica cruise and became converted. I think this picture proves that! Krissi is a mixed media artist based out of Sacramento, CA. Visit her blog to see more of her work at http://www.krissisandvik.blogspot.com/

Peace, love, and glitter!

ArtsyGringa: Simple Shrine Frame Tutorial

Michele, a fellow crafty gringa, just started a blog-o-tutorials this (well last) month. She may be new to blogging, but she's a pro at the mixed-media folk arts!

Be sure to check out her "Simple Shrine Frame Tutorial" in plenty of time for you to take advantage of the techniques before Dia de los Muertos! She shows you how to make the perfect little nicho for your own Day of the Dead creations!
Just add a muertito (Of course, I don't have to tell you that mine will have a certain kitty in it).

She even inspires us all with her finished creations:
Have fun my little craftitas!

Wouldn't you agree that she's DEFINITELY earned a Skelekitty Stamp of Approval for her blog?

New Awesome Site for Mixed-Media Addicts

I just found this wonderful site featuring weekly challenges by guest artists from around the world: MIXED-MEDIA MONDAY - the newest recipient of the SKSoA! This week's challenge is a fun one by Joan from Italy - you've heard of "inchies" and "twinchies," but now we have an official challenge to make a "thrinchie" (whichas you might imagine, is 3"x3" artwork).

Want to participate? Here's an explanation right from the source:

How to Participate
Create your mixed media piece, according to the current theme and upload it to your blog, or picture trail etc., then add a link to Mixed Media Monday. Then post a comment on Mixed Media Monday with a direct link to your artwork.

You all know I'm a kitty who craves a challenge, so I'm thrilled to get my paws on this site. Thanks so much for the lovely and talented Collage Contessa, who linked to this and led to my discovery!

I'm Kind Of A Big Deal

I am being immortalized in rubber stamps!

Special thanks to Lee Kellogg of Stampa Fe Rubber Stamps for taking me on! We met Lee at her AWESOME store, Guadalupe Rubber Stamps in Santa Fe, NM during a visit in May and she fell in love with me (how could you not?)

More special thanks to Kathy Murillo (aka The Crafty Chica) for convincing my Mom, Krissi, that she could actually do something like this and to Yoli Manzo (aka Sacred Snatch) for her undying support and willingness to listen.

Stay tuned for more information like contests, prices and the release date, which should be in early October!

Blogs that make me go PURRRRRRR

Readers of my Mom's blog will know that I've been busy creating a list of my favorite crafty & artsy bloggers, and I'm awarding the "Skelekitty Stamp of Approval" to bloggers who are super creative and inspirational (tutorials are like catnip to me).

When you're cruisin' the web, check these folks out. You'll be SO glad you did! Also, if I'm missing a GREAT blog, please nominate them for the SK SoA! If you're listed, ask me how you can put my "stamp" on your site.

Love & bones, SK
p.s. I've added quite a few more since this list was created - be sure to check ALL of them out!
