Goody Giveaway!

So, Krissi's pal, fellow sewing enthusiast, artist, makeup fiend and general cool chick, Mo "Miss Awesome" Love over at Madd Style Designs has been coming up with all kinds of lip treats over the past few months and Krissi (a self-confessed lip balm addict) has collected most of Mo's Hard Core Lip Bombs, which come in all kinds of flavors, from cotton candy to spicy chai and from grape soda to margaritas!
Pink Poison 'Tainted Lip Bomb' (L) &
Skelekitty 'Hard Core Lip Bomb' (R)
by Madd Style Designs & inpired
by Skelekitty

Now Mo is crafting up "Tainted Lip Bombs" with tints inspired by and named after the artists, crafters and characters with whom she collaborates.   (Oh, and speaking of collaboration, there will be an announcement of some group-type evil-making involving glitter very, very soon, so stay tuned).  Because not everyone wants color in their lip product, every one of these flavors also comes in an untinted version.

Mo's first tinted Lip Bomb was made as an homage to Cherry West of Sweets N Stuff (and this fabulous lipstick red beauty has already made it into a few Etsy treasuries!)

Pink Poison in action!
Then, a week or so back, two of Madd Style's coveted "Lip Bombz" were introduced with a Skelekitty theme - how exciting!  As with the cherry flavored Sweets N Stuff / Cherry Bomb duo, you have the choice between a tinted and an untinted version of this watermelon flavored tasty treat.  Pink Poison Tainted Lip Bomb (named after the Skelekitty skull/crossbones painting featured on most of my pages), has a soft pink tint and shimmer that will make you look as pretty as a picture and the untinted "Skelekitty" Hard Core Lip Bomb is packed with so much shimmer and sparkle it should be illegal.
Want more proof that you NEED a Skelekitty
Hard Core Lip Bombz?  How 'bout this?

Well thrill of thrills, I managed to get my little skelepaws on an extra one of the untinted, super shimmery, sparkly "Skelekitty" Hard Core Lip Bombz so I could give it away randomly to one of our fans!   It's super easy to enter.*
  1. Become a follower of this blog and of Mo's Madd Style blog
  2. Leave a comment** on this original post (on skelekitty.blogspot.com) telling Mo and Krissi why you'd like this lip balm (again, winner will be chosen by random).

Our winner will be chosen from qualifying entries on Thursday, July 15th at 2pm PST.  Good luck everyone!

Oh, and you KNOW Mo's stuff gets one of these, right?

*  pssst!  Don't have a blogger account?  Don't worry!  You can also enter on Facebook.

Kitty Paintings on SALE and T-Shirt Announcement

Personally, I think Krissi has lost her mind.  Maybe it's just the fumes from the spray-fixative, but she has reduced the price of every single mixed-media painting in her shop.  I'm not kidding, even the larger paintings of ME, and she never puts these on sale!

Now she's telling me that she's STILL giving a free print with each of these pieces too!  *sigh*  Whatever.  I suppose if she wants to give away the store, I'm no-one to stand in the way.

Siren Song NOW ONLY $114.49
11x14x.75" pyrography, acrylic and mixed-media on cradled hardwood artist panel
price reduced by $50 (was $164.49)
"Siren Song" FINISHED!
The 3/4" thick edges are painted gold and have lines from Alfred Lord Tennyson's poem "The Mermaid" transferred on them: "And if I should carol aloud, from aloft / All things that are forked, and horned, and soft / Would lean out from the hollow sphere of the sea, / All looking down for the love of me"

And these pieces spent the month of December in The Claude Gallery in New York! How exciting!

The "angel" painting features images of stars & winged locks, and the swirling clouds and her wings are highlighted with ultra-fine archival iridescent art glitter. The "devil" painting has images of keys rising in the hellfire, which has been detailed with three colors (yellow, orange and red) of ultra-fine archival art glitter.

Now, at long last, we have enough kibble stashed away in the piggy bank to begin the great T-shirt adventure!
First Skelekitty T-Shirt (mock up)
Krissi just needs to pull together the art and get worked into the schedule of the local artist/musician who will be burning the screens and making the shirts.  We should have pre-orders up in our shop within a week for those who want to be sure to get the size they want.  Keep an eye out for announcements!

What's Your Poison?

I'm not really into licensing out my little kitty face that much, not because I don't want to ('cause we know how self-centered I am - I'm a CAT after all!), but because the "big" thing hasn't really come along yet. However, I do like to get involved with the handmade community whenever I can - hence the licensing of my cute little mug to Stampa Fe for rubber stamps. But did you know that I also have agreements in place with a few of my favorite artists, allowing them to make and sell official Skelekitty merchandise? Yep. It is the truth.

I'm very excited to tell you about a brand spanking new joint venture with the lovely and gifted Kit Cameo, blogger, writer, cat-lover, geekery aficionado artist and friend.

kitcameo-bannershort

We've collaborated on a project / product that involves this image of me, some bar ware and Kit's not inconsiderable gift for etching, all of which resulted in "Skelekitty Poison Shot Glasses."

Guess Who? (sneak peek!)

Now you can "name your poison" and drink it too (silly kitty).

Skelekitty shot glasses by KIT CAMEO!

7/30/09 - UPDATE!! Well, the first two etched shot glasses have been sold! However, if you're dying to have one (or more), contact Kit.  You should also check out her other wares in her ArtFire studio and Etsy shop.

Skelekitty & Friends' Shop is Now Open on Etsy

Hey there skelecats and skelekittens - I finally got around to opening up my very own shop on Etsy called "Skelekitty and Friends." Although Krissi will continue to carry prints & merchandise of me and my friends in her store, my online store will be your ultimate one-stop skelecritter shop!

I worked yesterday afternoon to post the most popular skelecritter prints ($16 each), and some are even available with custom hand embellishments ($25 each). Shipping is free on your second print (up to five), and be sure to ask about a discount on multiple print/card purchases, too.
I'm photographing and posting more original art - it just takes me a little more time than it takes you humans on accounta my lack of thumbs. Not only are existing pieces still going up on the site, but Krissi is busy working on two new paintings already - I think she's taking advantage of how fast-drying acrylic paints are in this weather.

HEY KIDS!!!! IT'S A GIVEAWAY!!!!!!!

In the meantime, head over to Etsy (where it's free to register and shop) and add my shop to your favorites and you will be entered into a drawing to win an embellished print of the Angel Kitty from Love Cats:I'll choose the winner next Friday, July 24th from those who publicly "" my shop (yeah, that means you secret admirers won't be entered, so ya gotta 'fess up!).

I hope you've got something hip and cool planned for the upcoming midsummer weekend. I'll probably just put my paws up, grab a cold drink and snooze, occasionally checking into see how many people "love" me! (skele-kidding).

Summer skele-love,

SK

Dirty Dog of A Pirate!

Look!  It's another "jolly roger" inspired painting featuring one of my Skelefriends!

Krissi painted this little custom acrylic on wood for her friend Hezekiah of his beloved Weimaraner, Logan, complete with "happy ears."
Since she doesn't do as many skele-dog paintings as she does of me (which is exactly as it should be), Krissi has made slightly altered prints that are now available in her Etsy shop.  As with all of her 8x10" prints, you can get them as-is or hand embellished.

Oh, and speaking of Etsy, I want to open up my own shop over there, but someone who has never had a single has taken my name!  (insert gasp of horror here)   So what do you think I should call my shop?  "Skelekitty N Friends" maybe?  Or do I just give up on Etsy and try another online shopping site?  We'd love to hear your feedback.
We hope you enjoy the new doggie painting.  Who knows what critters or images will show up in the next "jolly roger" painting?

Another Store With Skelekitty Stamps!

While Krissi and Ron were away on their semi-working trip / vacation, they stopped into the rubber stamp store called "Paws on Main" in Cambria, CA (famous for its location just south of Hearst Castle and for being the town where Arachnaphobia was filmed). Krissi came home with quite a few new stampy goodies and replenished her almost-empty Stickles in "Orange Peel" while she was at it.

from "Paws On Main" in Cambria, CA

While Krissi was all deer-in-the-headlights at the stamps, inks and other good stuff, Ron, as usual, was talking me up to the owner of the store. Karen (that's the owner) immediately got excited upon hearing that rubber stamps of a retro-ish Day of the Dead kitty cat (1) actually existed and (2) could be ordered wholesale for her shop. About 2 days later, I received an e-mail from Lee at Stampa Fe telling me that she was packing up an order to go out to Paws on Main! WOO HOO!

So, if you're on California's central coast, stop by Cambria and tell Karen at Paws on Main howdy (she's super nice) and help keep this kitty in skele-kibble by getting yourself AT LEAST one of those rubber stamps, would ya?

All of the above goes DOUBLE for Cyndi of Santa Clarita Craft Lab who was the very first small business to carry my stamps.

In Print

Howdy gang! I got home from a kitty-prowl the other day to find a package in the mailbox from Guadalupe's Fun Rubber Stamps in Santa Fe (they make and carry the line of Skelekitty rubber stamps).

Oooh... Some Santa Fe magaines...
Hmm! Santa Fe local hot-spots publications. I wonder what's inside?

Woo Hoo!
OOH!! Lookie!

And Lee also sent me this cute hang-tag bookmark she made using some cool techniques AND two of the Skelekitty stamps!

Skelekitty Uncovered!

This weekend, Krissi's first new depictions of yours truly in almost two years will make their debut at Side Show Studios' "Women Uncovered" show.

Final: Skelekitty angel
Final: Skelekitty demon

These two 11x14" original mixed-media paintings on wood will be going together as a set ($250 for both). However, Side Show Studios will also have some unframed prints of these babies on hand for a mere $15 each.

We hope to see you at the opening reception this Saturday with some Scary-Art Collective favorites like Broken Toyland & Jill Allyn, and crafting pals like Sacred Yoli & Evie's Ark.  However, it's a wonderful chance to see great art by newcomers to the show scene like Emma Rebekah Norris - I've featured her official Skelekitty altered domino jewelry, but just wait until you get a look at her mixed-media and assemblage pieces! This is definitely a must see show.

Opening reception: Saturday, May 9, 2009 from 6-10pm

Our May show focuses on new, rarely shown, and obscure female artists. Never before seen artists will stand side-by-side with well-known, but rarely seen artists to celebrate the strength and power of women. From subtle landscape paintings to bright abstract depictions of life, the works in this
all-female exhibition are as diverse and interesting as the artists themselves. Join us to celebrate the achievements and creativity of today's female artists!

Featured artists include: Alison Monk, Amy Fort, Broken Toyland, Cate Schmiedt, Char Hall, Cy Wylie, Darcy Dick, Dy Martin, Emma Rebekah Norris, errin lacy, Evie Turner, Gem Platte, Jacquelyn Bond, Jenvy Fox, Jill Allyn Stafford, Kanika Marshall, Karin Faringer, Kelly Croisdale, Kim Brownell, Krissi Sandvik, Larissa Tessler, Linda Nunes, Lori Ann Delappe-Grondin, Margaret Teichert, Michelle Cordova, Nicole Fox, Rachel McPherson, Robyn Slakey, Sandra O'Ben Rauch, Silly Girl Design, Summer Maddux, Tiffany Valdez, Yoli Manzo, and many more!

The art will be on display daily from 10am - 10pm through June 6, 2009.

SK at the Santa Clarita Craft Lab Marketplace!

Sorry it's been so long since I blogged.

As you know, Krissi took me along with her on the 2009 Crafty Chica creativity cruise and we had a blast! She officially sold out of the supply of rubber stamps she had featuring yours truly, so I'm hoping she'll be reordering soon.... She also premiered her new line of Loteria cards (embellished with glitter and plain), which were a HUGE hit!
hand-embellished cards

After the cruise, we stayed three extra days in beautiful San Diego with Fearless and Shuka and their people, Alisa and Ann, where, thanks mostly to the prodding of Ann and Alisa, Krissi pimped out my stamps to a few cool scrapbooking stores. She even carried on with the retail store pimpage once she got home, and we shall see what comes of it....

Then just the other day, she heard from our pal Cyndi of the Santa Clarita Craft Lab asking about carrying the Skelekitty stamps in her new "Market Place!" She wants to start bringing in some unique kits and supplies from indie crafters (no finished projects at this point) and I jumped all over it like ... well, like a skelecat on a skelemouse! Besides, we certainly fit the bill - you don't get much more "indie" than a girl with a sewing machine, a laptop and a skeleton cat.

For those of you who don't know about the Santa Clarita Craft Lab, it's an AWESOME place! They offer some fun mixed media classes that you just can't really find anywhere else. Take, for example, this class on embellishments called Counting Crows:

All of the classes there are taught by seriously creative and fun folks and it's amazing to see what the students create. Check out their current classes here.

So maybe you aren't into group classes and just need some time away from the house? You can rent some space and craft a Wednesday or Thursday away for only $15 (and that includes use of their ample collection of tools)! Here's a sampling of just some of what they have on hand:

  • Cricut Expression Die Cut Machine
  • Cuttlebug Die Cut Machine
  • Sizzix Sidekick Die Cut Machine
  • An Assortment of Dies
  • 2 Sewing Machines
  • Sewing Notions, Iron & Board
  • Pasta Machine
  • PolyClay/Craft Oven & Tools
  • Xyron Sticker Maker
  • Zutter "Bind-It-All" Binding System
  • Heat Gun, Glue Guns, Fiskar Hand Drill
  • Woodburning Tool
  • Soldering Tools & Temp Control
  • Paper Trimmers with Designer Blades
  • An Assortment of Other Hand Held Tools
  • Assortment of Punches
  • The "Power Punch" Tool
  • PLUS adhesives, papers, doo dads, embellishments, buttons, brads, eyelets, beads, ribbons, fibers, yarns, lace, trims, card stock, rubber stamps, inks, paints, brushes, & more!
In addition to all the cool toys ... err, I mean TOOLS, they also have a knitting/crochet lounge. DUDE, SERIOUSLY! A KNITTING/CROCHET LOUNGE!

Just look at all that hot pink.... Yummy.

Here's another idea: why not let Santa Clarita Craft Lab host your next birthday, mothers' (or fathers') day, graduation or office party? You bring the cake and the guests, and they take care of the private studio space & instruction, all crafting supplies, plates/forks/napkins, and soft drinks/juice/water.

If you're like me and live too far away for a regular visit, you can drop by the official blog and keep up to date on all the crafty news that's fit to print.

Of course, I'll let you know the very SECOND that Cyndi has the shelves stocked with the red rubber representations of my cute image. Until then, stay cool and skele-crafty!

SK

Oh, and YES, Cyndi and the Santa Clarita Craft Lab have DEFINITELY earned a Skelekitty Stamp of Approval for this one!
